MT4 vs MT5: Which Platform Should You Choose for Your Bot?

Compare MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5: speed, indicators, backtesting, and which one fits your trading style.

MT4 vs MT5: Which Platform Should You Choose for Your Bot?
MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 are both popular platforms for forex and CFD trading. Here's a quick comparison to help you choose.

MetaTrader 4:
• Focused on forex; simple and lightweight.
• Huge library of existing EAs and indicators.
• Many brokers still offer only MT4.
• Uses MQL4 for programming.

MetaTrader 5:
• Supports more markets (stocks, futures) and timeframes.
• Faster backtester and more built-in indicators.
• MQL5 is more powerful but different from MQL4.
• Growing adoption; required for some brokers.

If you trade mainly forex and want maximum compatibility with existing bots, MT4 is still a solid choice. If you want more markets and better backtesting, MT5 is the way to go. You can also run both and use the right bot on the right platform.
